Fortis stripped


The Dutch government takes over all Dutch Fortis departments for an amount of 16,8 billion euro.
The package contains Fortis Bank Holland, the insurance-branch of the group in the Netherlands and ABN Amro. Belgium and Luxemburg become freeholder of the Fortis holding, while BNP Paribas owns Fortis Bank Belgium for 75%. According to premier Yves Leterme (CD&V), the separation is required to guarantee the solvency of the group.
