A delegation of British treasurers has started negotiations with the Icelandic government to recover savings of local authorities, other government bodies and charities which were deposited on one of the Icelandic banks. The tree Icelandic banks were nationalised by the Icelandic government the last two weeks and since then all foreign savers have no access to their savings. The British delegation wants to work out a solution for the British savers by securing a financial compensation from the Icelandic government. However, the Icelandic government is suspected to be virtually bankrupt so the government may have to take out a loan first.
